Know Your Place. Know Your Purpose. Know Your Function.
In the grand agenda of God’s Kingdom, timing and placement are never random. As Kingdom workers—whether in ministry, business, creativity, or service—we must understand that effectiveness begins with knowing three things: your place, your purpose, and your function.
Let’s take a look at the life of David, the shepherd boy turned king. Interestingly, David never lobbied for the throne. He wasn't in the palace networking for power or trying to maneuver his way to influence. His heart was rooted in service—first to his father, then to Saul, and even to the people of Israel. David understood his place: he was where God had put him, and he served there diligently.
David also understood his purpose. He was anointed to lead, but he didn’t rush God’s process. He still honored Saul, fought Israel's battles, and even befriended Jonathan, Saul’s son—the one who by natural order should have inherited the throne. There was no rivalry. No competition. Just honor and clarity of purpose.
And then, there’s function. David functioned first as a worshiper, then a warrior, and finally as king. Each role was vital in preparing him for the next. He never skipped stages, and he never dishonored the process.
As Kingdom workers today, we can learn much from David's posture:
-
Stop chasing positions and start embracing purpose.
-
Honor the people God places around you—even those ahead of you.
-
Be okay with hidden seasons; they are shaping seasons.
-
And most importantly, function where you are until God promotes you.
Let this be a timely word: You don’t need to push your way to the top. You only need to stay faithful in your field, trust the anointing, and walk in your God-ordained identity.
This is your time—not to strive, but to align.
