In a recent interview on GTV's Breakfast Show, award-winning gospel artist Scott Evans challenged the popular notion that gospel music is a genre of music. Instead, he wants to be known as an Afro-Gospel artist, fusing the message of grace and salvation with other mainstream and commercial genres such as Afrobeat, Hiphop, and the recently rising Amapiano genre.
Scott believes that gospel content can be channeled through any genre of music globally recognized. For him, it's about changing the status quo and breaking free from the perception and limitation of gospel music to contemporary worship and highlife grooves most people are used to in our part of the world.
The Map3 K3 hitmaker, who has been known to have a sound that can be related to around the continent of Africa and throughout the world, is targeting the youth with his music. He is determined to create gospel music that can compete and overtake the commercial secular music that most people jam to.
Scott also hinted at a new single titled '100 Percent' set for release in March. The song, which obviously preaches the gospel, also creates a vibe that the youth can relate with. Scott's goal is to create music that not only spreads the message of grace and salvation but also captures the attention and hearts of young people everywhere.
As an Afro-Gospel artist, Scott Evans is breaking boundaries and creating a new path for gospel music in Africa and beyond. We can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the future!
